Want to learn how to lead kirtan? This three part course focuses on how to chant while playing the harmonium with the accompaniment of kartals (hand cymbals) and mridanga (drum). Students will develop the ability and confidence to lead kirtan in a group, or simply for oneself. No previous musical experience is required for this course. Simple melodies are chosen so that all can participate. Each class also includes a discussion on the essential teachings of Bhakti Yoga. Students will be provided a harmonium for use in class.

Classes are held at:

Casa Copal Yoga + Wellness

2291 W Broadway, Vancouver

Of all the instruments, the most important is the voice. Finding one’s voice, or developing it further in kirtan, is a fulfilling experience of self discovery and expression. Our goal is to help each student exercise their voice and develop confidence singing in front of others. This confidence comes not from one’s practiced singing, but rather from one’s deep connection with mantra. Kirtan is a place of connection that transcends self-doubt.

The musical component of this course mostly focuses on the harmonium, the instrument which assists the melodies and moods of kirtan. Students learn simple but beautiful melodies on the harmonium and are also invited to an online group where further instructions and videos are available between classes.

Registration opens December 1
